From Bench to Backstrap
2025 FFSA Fall Shoot

Join us for the From Bench to Backstrap 2025 FFSA Fall Shoot! This free, members-only rifle event features three fun stages, each with a unique course of fire to get you dialed in before hunting season. Test your skills in different shooting positions and ranges, see where you shine, and find areas to improve—so you can bring home those backstraps!

Open to any club members.  Any centerfire rifle used by the member for hunting may be used. No AP ammunition will be allowed.  All rifles will be stowed or carried with the bolt open at all times for the safety of the participants.  Failure to do so will result in a DQ (disqualification), and the shooter will be asked to leave.  Please bring safety glasses and earplugs/muffs with you, even if shooting is suppressed. Bipods are allowed, as well as shooting rest bags.  Bring at least 20 rounds in case we have a side stage.  The course itself is a 10-round course of fire.

Stage 1

Shooter will begin with three rounds in the magazine, bolt back, weapon on safe.  On the beep shooter will engage the 200-yard steel swinger from the standing unsupported position. After engaging, the shooter will open action, move to a kneeling position, and engage the 200-yard steel a second time.  The shooter will then open their action and enter the prone position and engage the 300-yard Swinger.  Each 200-yard shot counts for 4 points, and the prone 300 for 2 points. The time will be the tie breaker.  Bipods are allowed on this stage.

Stage 2

Shooter will begin with 3 rounds in the magazine, bolt open, safety on.  On the beep, the shooter will move to the barricade prop (to simulate shooting from a tree limb) and engage the 400 yard small Swinger.  Bags and slings may be used on this stage, with no rear support (such as a tripod). Engage the target 3 times from the barricade. Shooter will earn 5 points for the first hit, 3 points for the second hit, and 2 points for the third hit.  Time will be the tie breaker.

Stage 3

Shooter will begin with 4 rounds in the magazine, bolt open, safety on.  On the beep shooter will enter the prone supported position and engage the 400-yard 10” steel (simulating kill zone on a deer) for two rounds.  1st round hit is 2 points, 2nd is 1 point.  Moving on to the 600-yard steel (12 inches to simulate the kill zone on an elk) shooter will engage the target twice.  1st round hit is worth 2 points, 2nd round hit is worth 1 point.  Any shots outside of the kill zone will result in a loss of a point due to a wounded animal.  Rear bags may be used in this stage.
